When you’re in the market for a subcompact crossover, chances are you’re looking for a dependable ride. The 2019 Chevrolet Trax may not be the top competitor in its market, but it does its best to live up to these expectations. It has room for up to five people, comes with all-wheel drive to help you navigate rough terrain, and earns relatively high scores for reliability.
If you’re wondering just how much you can count on the 2019 Chevrolet Trax,
Jerry
has put together a guide to the most common problems with the model. And no matter what subcompact crossover you choose, our top-rated

The most common 2019 Chevrolet Trax problems

The 2019 Chevrolet Trax has plenty of competition when it comes to subcompact crossovers, and it doesn’t exactly stand out from the crowd. While it boasts a comfortable and practical interior, it falls short in categories like engine performance, acceleration, and technology
But how does it stack up when it comes to reliability? According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration(
NHTSA
), the Trax has received a total of 69 complaints. Most of those have been regarding the suspension, but several have also mentioned the service brakes, engine, and electrical system.
Those suspension and steering issues have even been known to lead to a loss of control of the car while steering, even in cars that have a relatively low mileage under their belt.
In fact, out of the two recalls issued for the Trax, one was regarding the suspension. Around 100,000 vehicles were recalled as a result of poor welding on the lower control arms, which could lead to the arm separating from the vehicle causing a loss of control.
The other recall was due to an issue with an incorrect setting in the airbags. Some models may not have been turned off of “manufacturing mode”, which prevents them from deploying in case of a crash.
Owners also have taken issue with a few other quirks of the 2019 Trax:
  • Amount of trunk and hatch space
  • Ease of adjusting rear seats
  • Heating and air conditioning

Is the 2019 Chevrolet Trax reliable?

The 2019 Chevrolet Trax is reliable overall—even though it is not a huge hit in any other category.
RepairPal gave the Trax a 4 out of 5 reliability rating. That’s pretty high, but it still falls behind many of its competitors: Even with that score, it was ranked 6th out of 7 for subcompact SUVs. J.D. Powers also gave the 2019 Trax a relatively high score of 81 out of 100 for reliability.
When it comes to average annual
car repair
costs, the Trax will run you an average of $488 per year. That’s not too bad when compared to the average annual cost to repair other SUVs of its size, which tends to be around $466.

“I heard about
