You can reset a 2016 Honda Civic’s oil change light by pressing and holding the Trip knob for a few seconds. If your car has a Multi-Information Screen, you can do so by pressing a few buttons on the steering wheel.
If you get your oil changed by a mechanic, they’ll do this for you. But if you’re changing your own oil, you’ll want to know how to reset the light so it keeps tracking your oil life accurately. It just takes a little bit of fiddling with your car’s settings.
Read on to learn how to reset the light step by step.
How to reset the oil light in a 2016 Honda Civic
Modern Hondas
have what they call a Maintenance Minder System that displays the car’s oil life percentage. It slowly diminishes over time and begins to alert you to change the oil with a wrench icon on the gauge cluster once the oil life drops to 15%. If you’re changing the oil yourself, turning off the maintenance light and resetting the car’s oil life to 100% is your final step. There are two ways to do it:
If your Civic has a Multi-Information Screen:
Start the car, but leave the engine off. If you have a push-button start, press it twice without putting your foot on the brake.
Press the info button on the left side of the steering wheel—it’s the small button with a lowercase “i” toward the bottom-right of the directional pad. Then, scroll to the right on the directional pad until the screen displays a wrench icon and press “Enter.” The car’s oil life percentage will appear.
Hold “Enter” for about 10 seconds until you see “Maintenance Reset” on the screen.
Scroll down on the directional pad and select “All Due Items.”
If your Civic doesn’t have a Multi-Information Screen:
Start the car, but leave the engine off. If you have a push-button start, press it twice without putting your foot on the brake.
Press the Trip knob (the black knob to the right of the gas gauge) repeatedly until the car’s oil life percentage displays.
Hold the Trip knob down until the oil life percentage starts to blink, then press it once again to reset.
Turn your car off and start it again to make sure it reset accurately.
How often does a 2016 Honda Civic need an oil change?
Modern cars are pretty good at reminding you when they need an oil change, but it doesn’t hurt to keep track of it yourself. A 2016 Civic should have its oil changed about every 5,000 to 7,500 miles.
Those with 1.5L engines take 3.7 quarts of oil
and those with 2.0L engines take 4.4 quarts. “Using Jerry

RECOMMENDEDThis app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
