What kind of oil does a 2015 Toyota Tundra need?
Toyota recommends that you only use “Toyota Genuine Motor Oil” or an equivalent ILSAC GF-5 multigrade engine oil.
The viscosity of your oil should be 0W-20. This type of oil allows for easier startup in colder weather. Toyota also says that, if necessary, you can use 5W-20 oil in your Tundra as long as you replace it with 0W-20 the next time you replace the oil.
How often to change the oil in a 2015 Toyota Tundra
Now that you know how much and what type of oil to use, you need to ask yourself how often you should change your oil.
Regular oil should be changed every 3,000 to 5,000 miles while synthetic oil should be changed every 7,500 to 10,000 miles; however, if you don’t drive very frequently, you should have your oil changed at least once every six months.
Of course, other factors can affect your oil usage. If you frequently drive in heavy traffic or tow heavy loads, you may go through oil quicker. So you should be checking your oil level every month.
When you check the oil, keep an eye on the color and texture of the oil as well. If the oil is dark brown or black, it will need to be changed (it should be light brown or amber). If you notice that the oil is coarse or gritty, it’s another indicator that you’ll need to change it.

How to change your oil and oil filter
Changing the oil in your vehicle doesn’t have to be difficult as long as you know what you’re doing and you have the proper tools!
First off, make sure that you have at least 8 quarts of oil on hand to replace the oil you’ll be removing and a new oil filter. You’ll also need some tools: a socket wrench, a drain pan (that can hold at least 7.9 quarts of old oil), and a filter wrench.
Because of the ground clearance of the Tundra, you may not need to jack it up, but if you choose to do so, make sure to never get under a vehicle that is only supported by a jack.
Get your Tundra to normal running temperature, which should only take about five minutes, and then turn the truck off and pop the hood.
Unscrew the oil fill cap before you climb under the car. Get your drain pan into place and remove the oil drain bolt and washer. Make sure you don’t drop them or you’ll be searching through a lot of used oil to find them later!
As the oil drains, remove the old oil filter with the filter wrench. Once the oil has finished draining, attach the new oil filter and replace the oil drain bolt. Then pour the new oil into the engine. Make sure that you don’t see any leaks!
After that, start your Tundra and let it run for about a minute so that the new oil filter can be filled. Then, use your dipstick to check that your oil level is okay. You may need to put some more in because some of the oil will be displaced by the filter.
Make sure you dispose of your old engine oil appropriately! You can’t pour it down a drain or on the ground. It needs to be placed in a sealed container and taken to your local recycling center.
