Before doing anything else, warm the engine to its normal operating temperature. You can do this by driving around the block a couple of times or letting it idle for five to twenty minutes depending on the outside temperature. Then shut the engine off while your Lexus is on level ground and pop open the hood to get started:
- Remove the oil fill cap.
- Using the socket wrench, remove the oil drain bolt on the underside of the engine and allow the current oil to drain into the drain pan.
- Remove the old oil filter with the filter wrench, then wait for the rest of the oil to drain completely.
- Install the new oil filter.
- Replace the oil drain bolt.
- Refill the engine with 6.7 quarts of 0W-20 motor oil and replace the oil fill cap.
And congrats, you’ve changed your oil! Turn your engine on and check around for any leaks, then pull out the oil dipstick to make sure the oil levels are correct.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Now it’s time for clean-up. Pour the old oil into a sealed container so you can take it to your local recycling center. Make sure you don’t pour the oil onto the ground or in the trash.
