The 2013 Honda CR-V hood release can be found in the driver’s side cabin, near the floor on the left side. Pull this lever first, then go around to the front of your vehicle and release the hood safety latch by pushing up and to the right on the lever found under the lip of the hood.

The hood release on a 2013 Honda CR-V is located in the lower left side of the driver’s seat cabin and near the brake pedal.
Be sure not to confuse the fuel door release with the hood release since they’re so close to each other! You’ll be able to tell which is which by the images depicted on them: the fuel door lever has a picture of a gas pump and the hood release lever has a picture of a car with an open hood. Pull that toward you to pop the hood open.
Now, you’ll notice the hood doesn’t come up all the way. There’s a second lever you’ll need to release before that step, so head to the front of your vehicle and slide your hand under the slightly ajar hood until you feel the safety latch.
How to open the hood on a 2013 Honda CR-V
Got the locations of the hood release levers down? Follow these steps to open the hood of your 2013 Honda CR-V:
- Pull the hood release lever found inside the vehicle and listen for the hood to pop open.
- Go to the front of your CR-V and feel under the lip of the hood for the safety latch. It should be near the center of the hood.
- Press up and to the right on the safety latch to release the hood all the way.
- Insert the prop rod found under the hood into the notch on the underside of the hood cover to keep it propped open.

What if the hood release latch doesn’t work?
The hood release latch of your 2013 Honda CR-V should allow the hood cover to pop up so you have access to the safety latch. If the release lever or latch is malfunctioning or damaged, the hood will not be able to pop up unless you release it manually—which you can do with a flathead screwdriver and a flashlight!
Use your flashlight to illuminate what’s going on behind your CR-V’s front grille, right over the Honda insignia. Look for the hood latch cable that’s attached to the right side of the release lever. Once you find it, stick your flathead screwdriver directly under it and press up to get the latch to release. After the hood pops up, release the safety latch like normal.
How to repair the 2013 Honda CR-V hood release
While it’s handy to know the screwdriver trick, you’ll want to get your hood release repaired as soon as possible. The repair or replacement for a hood release latch or cable can be a little tricky, so it may be best to schedule a servicing appointment at your local Honda dealer or trusted local mechanic.
In general, you can expect to pay between $150 to $200 for the repair or replacement bill depending on where you go to get it done. The Honda dealership will be using Honda OEM parts and specialty Honda-trained labor, so this option will be the priciest.
