2013 Honda Accord engine oil capacity

To start with why we’re all here, the 2.4-liter engine of the 2013 Honda Accord has an engine oil capacity of 4.4 quarts or 4.1 liters
We know it may be a bit confusing to see a 2.4-liter engine with a need for 4.1 liters of oil, so let’s break that down for more clarity. A “2.4-liter engine” describes the amount of space taken up by the engine’s cylinders and is known as the engine’s displacement. That cannot be interchanged with the engine oil capacity of 4.1 liters, or how much motor oil the engine needs for optimal functioning, so be careful with these values.

What kind of oil does a 2013 Honda Accord need?

Aside from a specific amount of oil, the 2013 Honda Accord also needs a specific type of oil. Its engine was designed to work best with premium grade 0W-20 motor oil so it’s important to stick closely to that oil grade for the sake of the engine’s health.
Now, what does 0W-20 mean for the oil? That oil grade describes the oil’s viscosity at the engine’s cold start temperature and the engine’s normal operating temperature. 0 followed by W (standing for “winter) tells us that the oil’s viscosity is quite low at the cold start temperature. 20 describes a slightly higher viscosity level at the engine’s normal operating temperature, a burning hot 212°F.

How often to change oil on a 2013 Honda Accord

With the correct amount and type of oil for your 2013 Honda Accord, you might just be ready to get into the oil change. Might
Honda recommends the 2013 Accord receives an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles with conventional motor oil. If you prefer synthetic oil, you should change your oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles
How often and where you drive will also impact your oil change readiness. Everyday drives through the mountains require more work from your engine than a bi-weekly corner store trip, so factor in your driving habits too.
Regardless of the ways you drive, you’ll want to check on the quality and level of your oil about once a month. Pull out the oil dipstick to make sure the oil level is where it should be and keep your senses out for any of these contamination symptoms:
  • Black or dark brown oil color
  • Gritty or sludgy texture
  • Unfamiliar engine noises
  • Smoky, burning, oily smell
  • Decreased vehicle performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Ready to change your oil? Grab these materials:
  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Filter wrench
  • Replacement oil filter
  • 4.4 quarts of premium 0W-20 oil
Before anything else, make sure your engine is warmed up to its normal operating temperature. Depending on your area’s weather, you can idle for five to 20 minutes or take a quick trip around the block.
Once everything is toasty warm, shut your Accord off while parked on level ground, pop the hood, and follow these steps to change the oil:
  • Remove the oil fill cap
  • Head beneath the engine with the socket wrench and drain pan, remove the oil drain bolt, and allow the oil to begin draining
  • Remove the old oil filter and let the rest of the old oil drain completely
  • Install the new filter once all the old oil is out
  • Replace the oil drain bolt
  • Refill the engine with 4.4 quarts of premium 0W-20 oil and replace the oil fill cap
You can turn your engine back on to check for any leaks and you’ll be nearly finished! You’ll just need to clean up by pouring the used oil into a sealable container. Bring it to your local recycling center where it will be disposed of properly, and you’re done!
