Game show fans and car aficionados alike tune in to watch The Price is Right'sDream Car
Week. What new 2022 vehicles made the game show's list—and were there any luxury cars
? Here are our top three picks for this exciting week. 'The Price is Right' has given away over 8,400 cars
The Price is Right has been on the air since 1972, making it the longest running game show in U.S. television history. Bob Barker hosted the show until 2007, when Drew Carey took over the role. Over the last 50 years, the show's lucky contestants have won more than 8,400 cars, according to Car and Driver
. Everyone's definition of a "dream car" is different. For some, an American-made SUV fits the bill. Yet others want a sporty convertible. This year's Dream Car Week line-up offered a vehicle to suit every taste. While it was difficult, we managed to narrow down our top three picks.
We'd love to get behind the wheel of these 'The Price is Right' cars
Our first pick goes to the 2022 convertible Corvette C8
with 3LT trim. We think the head-turning design and driver-friendly automatic transmission make up for the lack of cargo space. In this model, the V8 engine has been moved behind the passenger compartment. Few people drive a Corvette for the fuel economy, but it's worth noting that it gets 27 highway mpg. If you aren't a lucky Price is Right winner, the base model 1LT will cost you $62,145. And for our second pick, we chose the BMW 8-Series
. This is the perfect car if you want a luxurious and smooth ride, but don't want to stick out in a crowd. All models come with an 8-speed manual transmission. Buyers (or winners) have their choice between all-wheel drive, which BMW calls "xDrive," or front-wheel drive. The base model coupe has an MSRP of $85,995. Our last choice may surprise you. We passed over a Porsche 718 Boxster and a Maserati Levante GT and picked a more mundane choice—the 2022 Toyota Camry
. What's so dreamy about a 4-door sedan? Maybe it's the 8.5/10 Car and Driver rating. Or the fact that there are nine trim levels with a few hybrid options thrown in. We're not the only ones who love Camrys, as it remains one of the best-selling cars. You can get behind the wheel of a base LE model for a modest $26,420. The cars given away on 'The Price is Right' aren't exactly free
The thought of winning a new vehicle is exciting, but The Price is Right cars don't exactly come free. Winners have to pay state taxes on all of their prizes, including cars. One contestant told Outsider
that, "After the show is over and you see your prizes, you fill out a form. And it explains exactly what you won and that you have to pay California income tax on your prizes." And anyone who imagined the winners driving right off the stage and onto the freeway will be disappointed. The winners don't actually get to drive their new cars home. They have to first pay the applicable taxes. Then, the representatives from the game show put them in touch with a local car dealership.
