It is rare to see a hypercar go on sale, but that's what happened when F1 superstar Lewis Hamilton decided it was time to cash out. The famed driver recently sold his Pagani Zonda 760LH. Here's what you need to know about this historic deal.
get most of the attention for premium cars made in Italy, Pagani has somewhat slipped under the radar. Pagani is young by car company standards, being founded in 1992.
The company was started by Horacio Pagani, who used to manage Lamborghini's composite department. Initially, the company was to just build parts, but eventually grew into making their own vehicles.
Out of this, the Pagani Zonda was born. The design of this speed demon was inspired by jet fighters and the Sauber-Mercedes Silver Arrow Group C cars. The results are stunning, as the Pagani Zonda looks like something Bruce Wayne would drive.
The Pagani Zonda first went into production in 1999, but the 760 series wouldn't arrive until the 2010s. The 760s were custom-built for select clients. While many of the buyers wish to remain private, they tend to include titans of industry and Arab royals.
One of the more public buyers of the Pagani Zonda 760 was Lewis Hamilton. For those who are unfamiliar with Formula 1 racing, Hamilton could be described as the greatest driver of all time. The British-born driver holds the record for most wins, most pole positions, and most podium finishes.
For his off days, Hamilton needed something flashy to drive while spending time in Monaco. To accommodate his lavish tastes, Hamilton reached out to Pagani to build his own custom Zonda. The result was the off-purple colored Pagani Zonda 760LH (the LH stands for Lewis Hamilton).
While probably a little slower than what Hamilton is used to driving on the track, his Zonda 760 still produces a jaw-dropping 750 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque. Not bad for a car that is technically street legal. Still, all good things must come to an end. Hamilton recently sold his Zonda after only seven years of ownership, according to
While it is well known that Hamilton sold this prized Pagani, details of the deal are a bit murky. For starters, the selling price is unknown. We do know that Hamilton paid about $2 million for the vehicle, according to
The last time a Pagani Zonda went to a public auction, it fetched just under $7 million, according to CarScoops. We think it's fair to assume that Hamilton's car appreciated even more, given that the previous owner is one of the greatest racers to ever burn rubber on the racetrack.
The buyer is also a mystery. It is known that the car was imported to the North West of the UK, but the new owner's identity remains unknown. Don't be surprised if you see Prince William darting around in an off-purple speed demon soon.
