This Is What It Takes To Build a Lykan Hypersport

The Lykan Hypersport was already a pretty impressive car, but its
appearance in Fast and Furious 7
put this supercar on the map. A total of 10 units of this hypercar
were made for the movie, but nine of them didn’t survive filming. The last remaining one was auctioned off in 2021. With only 7 units currently in existence, owners of a Lykan Hyperport include the likes of the

, W Motors, Emirati sports can company that was founded in Lebanon in 2012, unveiled the first Lykan Hypersport at the 2013 Qatar Motor Show. The Lykan Hypersport was the first-ever prototype model from
W Motors
, a company that would, soon after launching, relocate to Dubai. Dubai is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and the wealthiest city in the Middle East. W Motors has since produced other vehicles including the Fenyr SuperSport and a vehicle specifically developed for use as a police vehicle for the Dubai government known as Ghiath Smart Patrol.
The Hypersport made waves across the Middle East, but it wasn’t until being featured in Fast and Furious 7 that it began to receive more international and mainstream acclaim.
Why build a HyperSport?
For Genius Garage, building out a HyperSport was an educational endeavor. Genius Garage is an educational garage that provides college students with real-world experience in automotive and aerospace engineering.
While the HyperSport built by Genius Garage may only possess a fraction of the power of a real HyperSport, much time and care were put into creating the reproduction. CEO of W Motors Ralph Debbas even stepped in to lend some guidance, inviting Putsch out to Dubai to test drive an original Lykan himself.
The entire build took two years, and the finished product was sold off at a charity auction for $175,000.
How the Genius Garage HyperSport was built

reported that Genius Garage acquired a fiberglass shell of a HyperSport replica stunt that was used during a “Fast and Furious” live-action show.Next, Genius Garage needed something to build it off of. Putsch purchased a 2007 Porsche Boxster S for a little over $20,000. The Boxster was chosen because it underpinned the RUF CTR3, which was one of seven reference examples used to create the HyperSport.
The 2007 Porsche is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.7-liter boxer six that produces 245 horsepower. That’s not bad, but it's a far cry from the twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter flat-six engine of the HyperSport that delivers 780 horses and 708 lb-ft of torque. A real HyperSport can reach top speeds of 245 miles per hour, and blasts from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds.
While the 987 Boxster was chosen for a reason, it had to be heavily modified In order to fit the fiberglass body. The chassis was reportedly stripped of its stock bodywork, sectioned off, and stretched over eight inches to fit the new body.
