It’s a sad day for Nissan
lovers, as the car brand just announced one of its popular vehicles would be discontinued. Drivers must say goodbye to the Nissan Rogue Sport after the manufacturer announced production would stop this December, and the vehicle would stop being sold in early 2023. In order to commemorate the Nissan Rogue Sport
, let’s take a trip down memory lane to reminisce on this car, plus discuss the cause of its sudden discontinuation. What is the Nissan Rogue Sport?
The Nissan Rogue Sport is a subcompact SUV that hit the roads in the United States in 2017, with a plan to add to Nissan’s conquest sales. It’s the smaller version of the U.S. Nissan Rogue
, and essentially a U.S. version of the European Nissan Qashqai. With a starting price of around $26,200, the Nissan Rogue Sport is a reasonably priced car, but a bit more expensive than other Nissan models.
It supports a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine which makes 141hp when paired with the continuously variable automatic transmission.
All that’s under the hood provides the car with an overall smooth ride and nice acceleration, but nothing completely unique. Fuel economy is 25mpg in the city and 32mpg on the highway, which again, is good but not great.
While the Nissan Rogue Sport has a roomy and comfortable interior, many reviewers complained about the outdated technology
and infotainment system inside the car. It seems these features haven’t been updated much since the car debuted in 2017. Why is the Nissan Rogue Sport being discontinued?
The Nissan Rogue Sport is being discontinued so Nissan can invest time and energy into other vehicles.
According to Car and Driver
, a Nissan spokesperson said the company’s new strategy, the Nissan NEXT plan, would be focused on core models and segments that would be most beneficial to customers. Nissan decided the Rogue Sport simply didn’t fit into the NEXT framework, causing it to be discontinued at the end of 2022.
Car and Driver reports that in a memo to Nissan dealers, Vice President Scott Shirley stated that the brand wanted to focus on higher volume models as well as more electric vehicles.
Furthermore, Nissan believes that they won’t miss out on the subcompact SUV market by discontinuing the Rogue Sport, as that spot can still be filled by the all-new, redesigned Nissan Rogue, as well as the Nissan Kicks.
Can you still get a Nissan Rogue Sport?
The Nissan Rogue Sport will still be in production for the remaining three months of 2022, with the final production being completed in December. Nissan dealers can still sell the Nissan Rogue Sport until inventory runs out, which is predicted to be sometime in 2023.
Nissan will continue to make replacement parts and other things needed to support the Rogue Sport through the entirety of 2023.
While used models will surely continue to be sold and resold after 2023, if you want to purchase a new Nissan Rogue Sport, you likely only have about five months left to get your hands on one before they become scarce.
