Since full-sized SUVs and trucks house the biggest tanks, naturally they’re the most expensive to fill up. Unless you live in California where gas is close to $7, the national average price of gas is $4.37 a gallon.
Also, because of their large tank capacity, they can hold between 24 and 28 gallons of gasoline. Unfortunately, with poor fuel economy between 14 to 17 mpg overall, drivers are seeking relief.
In particular, the 2022 Ford Expedition has a 453-mile range per tank and a 28.3 gas tank capacity, topping Consumer Reports’
list of most expensive vehicles to gas up. To fill up, it’s costing drivers an offensive $124. With new styling and technology, the 2022 Ford Expedition ranges from $52,405 and $84,610.
The Ford features a3.5-liter turbocharged V6 engine with 375 hp and it can tow about 9,300 pounds. The SUV can accelerate to 60 mph in just 7.3 seconds.
Consumer Reports gave the Ford Expedition a 5 out of 5 for the trunk/cargo area and rear seat comfort. For its acceleration, front-seat comfort, transmission, noise, and interior fit and finish the SUV scored a 4 out of 5.
Braking and ride received a 3 out of 5 and emergency handling scored a measly 2 out of 5. Consumer Reports gave the Ford an overall rating of 73.
Might as well be a gas guzzler
The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban isn’t close behind. For a tank of gas, drivers are shelling out $122. The large SUV gets 448 miles per tank and can hold 28 gallons at a time. The Suburban has an EPA of 11 mpg in town and 22 mpg on the highway.
The 2022 Toyota Sequoia has a 396-mile range per tank. With a tank capacity of 26.4, it costs $115 to fill up. The SUV has an EPA of 10 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.
The 2022 Nissan Armada starts at just under $50,000. Drivers are spending about $114 to fill up the 26-gallon tank. The auto can drive 364 miles per tank, with an overall EPA of 14 mpg.
If you’ve already spent upwards of $70-$80k on the 2022 Infiniti QX80, you better have the cash for $114 fill-ups. The luxury SUV has a 26-gallon tank and can clock 390 miles per tank. For EPA, you’re looking at 11 mpg in town and 21 mpg on the highway.
Also coming in at $114 per refuel, the 2022 Nissan Titan has an EPA of 11 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway. Per 26-gallon tank, drivers get 416 miles.
While the 2022 Ram 1500 is the number one rated pickup, it’s no surprise it costs $114 to fill up as well. The truck’s gas tank capacity is 26 gallons, and owners get 416 miles per tank of gas. The Ram 1500 comes with an EPA of 11 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
Starting at $77,795 for just the base model, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade will cost you $105 each time at the pump. The Escalade has a 24-gallon gas tank capacity and a 384-mile range per tank. The luxury vehicle has an EPA of 10 mpg in town and 23 mpg on the highway.
The popular 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will set you back $105 for a tank of gas. The full-size pick-up has a 24-gallon capacity and a range of 408 miles per tank. With the same stats, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe also costs $105 to fill up. Both vehicles share an EPA of 11 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
The Toyota Tundra could soon make this list, with its 32.2-gallon tank. Drivers would have to pay a whopping $141 to fill up. With a 26.5-gallon tank, the Jeep Wagoneer likely costs $116 to fill up.
