Pagani, the last family-owned Italian hypercar brand, might not have the long history of its Lamborgini
and Ferrari counterparts, but its racing prowess is undeniable all the same. With the rarest Pagani in the world
selling for a high price, the standard for excellence has always been high, but the battery of tests they put their Imola through is unparalleled. The result is a thing of beauty that could only be made by going through such a rigorous refining fire. Zooming down the track at blistering speeds, the Pagani Imola is a sight to behold; just don’t blink or you’ll miss it.
The epitome of true racing craftsmanship
With the Imola, Pagani set out to make a track-focused machine that could become the golden standard of the circuit.
According to the Pagani website
, each of the highly limited examples built (5 units made in total) is put through 10,000 miles of track driving at racing speeds before it’s signed off on by the manufacturer. In other words, Pagani isn’t interested in a flash-in-the-pan performance from the Imola but rather a machine that is equal parts speed demon and tough as nails.
What’s under the hood?
Like its predecessor, the Huayra, the Imola relies on a Mercedes AMG
V-12 engine. The difference is that the Imola comes with a 6.0-liter engine, giving it a total of 827 horsepower, 107 more than the Huayra. Named after the Imola circuit in Bologna, Italy, the Imola comes with a 7-gear automated manual gearbox as well as an active aerodynamics system that automatically adjusts the car's 4 mobile winglets to the driving conditions.
Coming in at a feathery 2,747 pounds, this $5.4 million is a sight to behold.
The aesthetic
Imola was less interested in creating a catwalk-ready supercar and more focused on performance, performance, and performance.
“We can’t say that it’s an elegant car. We wanted an efficient vehicle, and just as you’d expect if you were looking at an F1 single-seater, this led us to design a car with additional aerodynamic features,” said founder and chief designer, Horacio Pagani.
But hey, if crushing the competition isn’t sexy, I’m not sure what is. Or rather, what’s the point of the sleek design if you can’t run with the big guns?
