The Maserati Levante is already one of the most stylish and highly-coveted SUVs
you can get. It's also got more performance potential than most family haulers with its twin-turbo engines and awesome handling. Sure, your auto insurance
premiums might be slightly higher, but this unique car is worth it. The base 2022 Maserati Levante GT has an MSRP of $84,700. The range-leading Levante Trofeo starts at $160,900. What's up with the Trofeo's outrageous price hike?
The Maserati Levante Trofeo is the quickest model available
The Maserati Levante Trofeo is powered by a twin-turbo 580-horsepower V8, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and AWD. According to Maserati
, it can reach 60 mph in less than four seconds and has a top speed of 187 mph. The Trofeo (which means "trophy" in English) is actually a callback to Maserati's short-lived series of racing cars.
Customers could rent or buy their own Trofeo vehicles and compete as drivers in Maserati's one-make racing series. After Maserati started pursuing the GT4 competition in 2015, the Trofeo Maserati championship was dissolved.
The Maserati Levante Trofeo offers more than just speed
The Maserati Levante Trofeo has one of the most high-class interiors of the segment, surrounded by buttery-smooth leather. The automaker also gave its top-tier model open-pore wood accents and beautiful carbon-fiber trim.
The Trofeo comes with its own unique dashboard clock, as well as special badging throughout.
The Maserati Levante Trofeo can seat five passengers, and riders can enjoy standard heating in both rows. Seat ventilation is standard, but only for the front seats. Both rows are spacious enough for most adults, but the cargo area is slightly undersized.
The center touchscreen is surprisingly small at eight inches, but it comes with great graphics and user-friendly features. You get smartphone integration, navigation, and an in-car digital assistant. The Trofeo also gets the best stereo system, a 17-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup.
What about the Maserati Levante GT trim?
The Maserati Levante GT might not have the Trofeo's racing roots, but it still has plenty to offer. Its twin-turbo V6 has 345 horsepower on tap, achieving a top speed of 156 mph. It's also still decently speedy with an official 0-60 time of 5.8 seconds.
At first glance, it's hard to tell the difference between a Maserati Trofeo GT's interior and the Trofeo's. However, the GT uses a different leather material that can't quite match the elegance of the Trofeo's Pieno Fiore leather.
Additionally, the GT has chrome accents instead of the carbon fiber inside the Trofeo. The Maserati Levante GT also doesn't have as many comfort and safety features. Some of those can be purchased through packages, but others (like ventilated seats) cannot.
However, all those packages also allow you to customize a GT more than a Trofeo. For instance, the GT Sport package gives you an exclusive rear spoiler.
Additionally, the Trofeo's asking price is too expensive
for just a bigger engine and a few extra interior features. While both are different in terms of power and features, you'll still get the same satisfying handling with either one. How much is insurance for a Maserati Levante Trofeo?
The average insurance rates for Maserati cars are already quite high, nearly $3,000 per year
. With the Trofeo's elevated price tag and extra features, your insurance premiums might be higher than that average. Fortunately, the newest Maseratis are less expensive compared to models released between 2015-2020.
