If you want to protect your car from being stolen, a manual transmission
is a good way to start. Why? Most people can’t drive one. While there aren’t many featured in today’s market, you can still find a select few manual transmission trucks
ready to haul trailers and load their beds with cargo. Jerry

A manual transmission, or stick shift as we like to call it, features a gearbox that allows the driver to choose between different gear ratios. It’s a great option for gearheads or anyone who loves the sound of the engine and the feel of the road.
Most people drive with automatic transmissions, especially in the U.S. Automatic vehicles choose the gear ratio for the driver, and are much more convenient for high-traffic areas. According to MotorBiscuit
, “It’s much more difficult to constantly stop and start with a manual than just rolling along in an automatic.” Cars with continuously variable transmission (CVT) don’t use gears and rely on a continuous belt and pulley system. Basically, the CVT does its own thing without needing to “shift.”
Modern manual transmission trucks
The 2022 Toyota Tacoma offers an optional manual transmission that comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 278 hp. The four-wheel-drive TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and TRD Pro offer drivers a six-speed manual transmission.
And the 2022 Jeep
Gladiator pickup sports a six-speed manual transmission with a 3.6-liter V6 engine and 285 hp. On most trims, this transmission is standard, and an eight-speed automatic comes with the diesel option. The 2021 Jeep Gladiator comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission and won’t limit your access to specific trim levels.
However, “it was recalled for a faulty clutch pressure plate that could result in a fire. According to Car and Driver, Jeep recalled 42,887 vehicles, including 2018 to 2021 Wrangler models and 2020–2021 Gladiator models with manual transmissions,” MotorBiscuit
notes. The 2018 Ram 2500 Laramie is rated to tow 17,480 pounds (and 4,000 more pounds than that with the Mega Cab with dual rear wheels added).
The highest trim with a clutch pedal, the Laramie cranks out 660 lb-ft of torque, powered by a 6.7-liter turbodiesel inline-6 engine. “The Laramie could be nicely outfitted with heated and cooled seats, parking sensors, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto,” Autotrader
tells us. Used manual transmission trucks online
The 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 LS Dually is a one-ton machine with a manual transmission, turbodiesel, and rear-wheel drive. Drivers also receive a plethora of high-level options such as bucket seats separated by the center console.
The regular-cab houses a 6.5-liter turbodiesel with 195 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. When it first hit the market, it was only $27,842.
The 2005 Dodge Ram SRT-10 is a full-size pickup on the lighter side, with a large 8.3-liter V10 engine under the hood. The regular-cab, short-bed model also features rear-wheel drive with 500 hp and 525lb-ft of torque. The Ram SRT-10 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in less than five seconds.
The excessive 2005 model could also come to a stop quicker than most pickups. According to Autotrader, “The lowered suspension, Bilstein shocks, and oversized anti-roll bars also gave it something resembling good handling.”
The 1999 Ford F-250 XLT is an extended cab that features a 6.8-liter V10 engine. It was almost as strong as a modern diesel, cranking out 275 hp with 410 lb-ft of torque. It also offered optional four-wheel anti-lock brakes and could tow 11,800 pounds. One model was spotted in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for $25,576.
A 7,000-mile 1997 Ford F-250 XLT was spotted in Woodbury, New Jersey. According to Autotrader, “This F-250 came from the final year of production before Ford rebranded the trucks as Super Duty models and gave them distinct interior and exterior styling compared to the F-150.” At $80,000, it ain’t cheap, but you will get an awesome 7.3-liter Powerstroke turbodiesel V8.
