A recent patent shows that Warner Brothers is exploring the idea of putting gaming systems that can be used while moving into cars. According to Game Rant
, Warner Brothers filed a patent titled Hardware For Entertainment Content In Vehicles on April 4, 2022, which was later published on Sept. 22, 2022. The patent details plans for a gaming system that drivers can play while in a moving vehicle. The systems would be installed in self-driving cars, so that drivers could enjoy multiplayer video games on the journey to their destination while the vehicle drives itself.
How would Warner Brothers’ gaming system work?
One of the biggest concerns with Warner Brothers’ gaming system for moving cars is safety. The patent details use of a complex sensor system and a 5G communication system, which Warner Brothers claims will ensure the gaming platforms can be used safely inside the car.
Game Rant reports that an apparatus housed in a portable display is described in the patent, which is the system that would provide gaming entertainment while driving. Additionally, the patent specifies the gaming system would be used for multiplayer gaming, not just single player for the driver.
High-quality graphic processors are already in use in many self-driving vehicles, so it’s likely the graphics would be easy to employ in a vehicle. Beyond the information in the patent, the technology to make this possible is still unknown.

This isn’t the first car gaming system to exist
While Warner Brothers’ car gaming system would be the first one drivers can use while the vehicle is moving, it isn’t the first gaming system to ever be installed in a car. BMW recently partnered with AirConsole to bring gaming to the infotainment system inside a BMW. The system, which can only be used while the car is stationary, uses smartphones as controllers.
Tesla has also explored car gaming for when the vehicle is stationary or charging.
Needless to say, if Warner Brothers can pull off a gaming system that drivers are able to use while the car is in motion, it would be the first of its kind. So, would you use a gaming system while your car drove itself?
