The Ford Fusion Active Is Making a Comeback

. Why Ford is bringing back the Fusion
The previous edition of the Fusion was a mid-size sedan manufactured from 2006 to 2020. In spite of equipping the fusion with a high-tech cabin and numerous powertrain options including both a hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain, the Fusion just wasn’t selling.
The latest iteration was discontinued in 2020 to make room for more SUVs and trucks in Ford’s lineup.

Car and Driver
, the new Fusion Active isn’t quite an SUV, but it has been reintroduced as a lifted station wagon to better fit in with the rest of the brand’s fleet, which is now almost entirely comprised of SUVs and trucks. Watch out, Subaru Outback
While the redesigned Fusion will be rivaling many cars in the midsize segment and small crossover SUVs, Ford is specifically targeting another lifted hatchback—the Subaru Outback—with this launch.
Should the new Fusion be successful, it could also replace the Edge as the brand’s midsize offering. The 2022 Ford Edge has a starting price of $39,440.
While that’s in line with competitors like the Chevy Blazer or the Honda Passport, the Edge lacks the more modern and refined feel that many new SUVs are sporting today.
Because you’re getting an upgrade in size and features, the new Fusion Active will likely be a bit pricier than the previous version. Car and Driver estimates that pricing will start around $35,000 for the standard tier.
If trim levels align with other Ford models, there will likely be an SEL and Titanium trim, which Car and Driver estimates at $38,000 and $41,000, respectively.
This would still outprice the 2023 Subaru Outback, which has a starting MSRP of $29,620.
One holdover from the old Fusion that Ford will likely replicate is the numerous powertrain options. As electric cars grow in popularity and gas prices remain high, more consumers will be seeking out hybrid and plug-in hybrid cars to save money on gas.
