background
Ever the responsible automotive steward,
Ford
established a special driving school for owners of its much-hyped
Bronco
to learn the basics of safe off-roading.

The Bronco Off-Roadeo

And it's not just limited to folks with their own Bronco in hand; the automaker has set aside some of its new off-roaders so those taking the class can visit one of four locations in the U.S. to learn about what it can do.
Essentially, Ford is trying to teach people how to have fun in their Broncos lest they sit to collect dust in a very lightly used garage.
And it's not the first time the automaker has attempted to get its customers out and to enjoy their new vehicles;
Ford Performance
runs a series of racing schools for the company's performance vehicles.

A playground for Bronco owners

Ford
describes the Bronco Off-Roadeo as an off-roading and outdoor adventure playground offering rugged trail drives led by off-road experts, who will show Bronco owners how to get the most out of their vehicles.
The automaker offers the course at locations in Texas, Utah, Nevada, and New Hampshire.
Bronco owners have the chance to learn about the history of their Ford Bronco, how to start their own off-road adventures, how to behave on trails, and more.
Instructors also demonstrate how the Bronco's integrated trail maps system works, as well as its stabilizer bar disconnect, front and rear lockers, and 360-degree cameras help drivers navigate tough trails.
"Students" can also drive a provided
Bronco
on local trails of varying difficulty and length before learning how to equip and recover an off-road vehicle in the event of a mishap. No word on what they'd recommend in the event of an unexpected Bronco
engine failure
, however.
Every Bronco owner gets one free admission to the class—and it's something the staff at
Consumer Reports
would recommend.
CR's staff took the Bronco Off-Roadeo course, calling it a great way to get accustomed to everything a Bronco can do. Even if Bronco owners don't plan on going
off-road
regularly (a shame), it's still worth it to figure out all the bells and whistles on your new Bronco.
But before you decide to go off-roading, don't just assume any damage your vehicle receives from going off-road is going to be covered by your insurance.

Will my insurance cover off-road driving?

It depends on your insurance provider and plan; there's no way to know for sure if you're covered.
Just kidding. Most insurance policies will outline normal road usage in their coverage limits; that means if you're not driving on a paved road, you'll be excluded from coverage.
That's OK for most motorists, as many sedans and SUVs are not off-road-capable and are not billed as such, to begin with.
But if you want to go off-roading, you'll buy an off-road vehicle—and those policies can include off-road driving as a covered activity. To find out for sure, call your insurance company.
But so long as you stay off of beaches at low tide, you'll probably fare better than this guy's Bronco did.
