background
If you're looking for a reliable domestic SUV that won't ruin whatever precarious financial situation you're in, the 2022
Chevrolet
Trailblazer might be what you need.
Consumer Reports (CR) listed the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer as one of its most
reliable new SUVs
that won't sink your budget.

The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer offers great reliability and value

The
list from Consumer Reports
details seven cars and SUVs priced under $30,000 (which is the new threshold for affordability, apparently) with exceptional reliability for their price range. The list includes the Toyota Prius and Prius Prime, the Mazda Miata and Subaru Crosstrek, among others.
Starting at $21,800, the 2022 Chevy TrailBlazer shares a platform and powertrain with the Buick Encore. Its base model boasts a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine while the automaker also offers models with its 1.3-liter, 155-horsepower engine.
CR gave the Trailblazer a 76 out of 100, putting it in the upper third of ratings for subcompact SUVs the publication has tested. It gave the TrailBlazer a predicted reliability rating of 5 out of 5
Though hit it with a 2 out of 5 for its predicted owner satisfaction rating, mainly because of perceived low value for what customers pay for the vehicle—which, we guess, isn't that big a deal considering its inclusion on this list.

The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer is small but roomy

GM revived the Trailblazer for the 2021 model year after a 12-year absence. The original Trailblazer was replaced by the
Chevy Traverse
in 2009. It shouldn't be confused with its larger sibling the Chevy Blazer.
The Trailblazer sits below the larger
Chevy Equinox
and above the Chevy Trax in terms of size and price. CR notes that despite its small size, the Trailblazer has a
roomy interior
, though it lacks rear and side visibility due to thick roof pillars and the absence of a rear side window. It also suffers from a somewhat noisy engine.
It comes standard with active safety features like forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection and optional blind spot warning.
Another benefit of its small footprint is its excellent gas mileage; the 2022 Trailblazer has an overall mileage rating of 27 mpg, with 19 mpg for city driving and 37 mpg for highway driving.

Go for LS or LT trims

CR notes that the best version of the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer to get is the LS model, which grants drivers access to optional blind spot warning to help counteract the relatively poor visibility caused by its thick pillars and lack of rear side windows.
Going for the LT model will grant drivers a power seat with lumbar support adjustments as well as heated seats.
And if you're looking to blaze trails with the Trailblazer, you should probably stick to well-maintained dirt roads; the Trailblazer isn't actually designed to go off-road despite its name.
