There's a little-known secret about Lexus
: it once produced a relatively affordable supercar

Lexus didn't go about the production of its supercar LFA in your typical fashion. Production only ran for two years, from 2010 to 2012, and Lexus was very selective about its customers.
Car and Driver
explained that the company would only sell its cream-of-the-crop vehicle to car collectors and high-profile individuals who would take it out on the road. In all, a total of only 500 LFAs were produced, at a rate of 20 per month. Given the exclusivity and power of the car, it's somewhat of a wonder that it didn't cost more. Retail price for the Lexus LFA started at "only" $350,000--a price at which Lexus said it was taking a loss.
Compare that with the similarly powerful $650,000 Ferrari Enzo, and you can see that the Lexus LFA was a remarkably good deal.
Lexus figured that the loss on the vehicles was worth it for the publicity that it gained from having a high-performance supercar on the market.
A look at the Lexus LFA's specs
You may be wondering whether the Lexus LFA could really boast supercar performance at a price that's far lower than that of some competitors. The answer is yes.
The Lexus LFA comes with a 4.8 L V-10 engine capable of 553 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque. It even offers four driving modes: automatic, normal, wet, and sport. Manual shift speeds can also be selected if the driver prefers.
The car came in a wide array of color choices as well. With 30 to choose from, there was bound to be one for basically any aesthetic. (Car and Driver recommended against the black matte, however, saying "it looks like someone forgot to paint it properly.")
Where are these Lexus supercars now?
Given their limited production and Lexus's decision to sell the LFA to only certain types of customers, it can be next to impossible to get your hands on one of these cars these days.
That's about to change, though, as CarBuzz
has reported that Lexus is getting ready to release a successor to its classic supercar. Lexus UK recently posted three images of its upcoming supercar on its official Instagram page and confirmed in the caption that it's inspired by the LFA. What makes this new version of the Lexus LFA stand out is that it will be an all-electric vehicle. Lexus and Toyota aim to offer all the performance of a supercar that consumers have come to expect while moving forward with their EV technology plans.
