It may not be ideal for your daily commute or a family road trip across the country, but the biggest truck in the world certainly has the most cargo space!

background
To answer that question you’ll have to travel to our planet’s deepest craters, because the biggest truck in the world is used for
mining
. In order to put its size into perspective for you, imagine that the engine alone is the size of your living room.
For decades, heavy equipment companies have built
trucks
that get progressively larger and stronger. A Belarus company has the lead for now with the largest haul truck in 2022. But even the size of other runners-up will leave you awestruck.

The biggest truck in the world

If you’re in the market for a custom truck worth $6,000,000, the BelAZ 75710 is right up your alley! With a unique transmission, chassis, and wheels, you won’t meet another one like it on the road. Actually, you won’t meet it on the road because it won’t fit on a U.S. highway.
The biggest truck in the world is 10 meters wide, 20 meters long, and 8 meters tall. It weighs a whopping 450 tons, and is capable of hauling up to 500 tons of material.
Its top speed is 40 mph. But according to
HotCars
, 25 mph is the most economical. This is necessary considering it empties both fuel tanks, or 5.6 tons of diesel, in 12 hours. After refueling, this truck is back to work since it was designed to work 23-hour days, up to 20 years. It averages about 62,000 miles per year.
Extreme weather conditions are no problem for the BelAZ 75710 either, thanks to its powerful glow plugs and large cooling system. It’ll even climb short slopes with an 18% gradient.
The BelAZ 75710 comes equipped with eight air filters and two V16 motors for a total of 4,660 hp. It runs on eight tires valued at $90,000 each. These are part of a hydraulic steering system that shortens its turning radius to less than 20 meters.

Other top contenders

The biggest truck in the world is determined by its length, height, gross vehicle weight (GVW), payload, and engine output.
HowStuffWorks
compiled a list of other trucks with an imposing stance, before the BelAZ 75710 came along.
The Caterpillar 797B may only be 7.2 meters tall, but it has a GVW of 688 tons. And it’s still bigger than the Hitachi EH5000, with a payload of 315 tons and an output of 2,700 hp. The Komatsu 930E-4 is just as powerful but can carry 321 tons, all while sitting taller and longer.
A Liebherr T 282 B is similar in size, but surpasses the competition with its GVW of 652 tons. However, it still sits in the shadow of a Terex MT 6300AC. This is one of the biggest trucks in the world due to its 3,750 hp engine. It’s 7.9 meters tall, 15.6 meters long, and weighs a total of 660 tons. The Terex MT 6300AC is a staple in the Canadian tar sands, alongside the world’s biggest excavator from the same company.
Other big trucks from the past include Russia’s ZIL-E-167 6x6. This 30-foot-long relic from 1962 was built to traverse the northern tundra, as reported by
Autoweek
. Then there’s the similarly styled Monster SUV custom-built for Sheikh Hamad bin Hamdan Al Nahyan. It combines a Jeep Wrangler and Oshkosh M1075 military truck with a Caterpillar diesel engine.
There was also the U.S. Army’s Alaskan prototype, the LeTourneau land train. The project never moved forward, but the 12 trailers and four gas turbine engines cost $3.7 million. All of these trucks are impressive, but none of them hold a candle to the biggest truck in the world.
