HotCars
characterizes the 2013 Toyota Tacoma as a “gas saving beast.” It makes sense—Toyota is known for a lot of things that come standard across its vehicles, and one of those is fuel economy.
The 2013 Toyota Tacoma has a 2.7-liter engine that gets 19 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Compared to sedans or hybrid cars, that fuel economy may seem pretty low, but for a large pickup truck it’s a pretty great deal. Plus, drivers get the power of a pickup truck—the 2013 Toyota Tacoma can produce 159 hp. Today, drivers can get their hands on one for around $24,000.
2015 Ford F-150

According to My Drive Car
, the 2015 model has a 2.7-liter, V6 engine that has a horsepower of over 300. It gets a fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, which is solid for a pickup truck of its size and power. It has a market value around $26,000 today, which is a steal for the power, gas mileage, and features on this model of the beloved Ford F-150 truck
. 2016 GMC Canyon
The 2016 GMC Canyon has two engine options, both with solid gas mileage, but the more fuel efficient vehicle is the 2.5-liter, inline four engine.
For a price around $29,000, you can get a pickup truck with an overall fuel economy rating of 29 mpg, and a horsepower around 200. While it isn’t the fastest or most powerful pickup truck on the market, it does have a great fuel economy rating, impressive towing capabilities, and a reasonable price tag of just under $30,000.
1997 Chevrolet S10
If you’re looking for a much older pickup truck with good gas mileage, the 1997 Chevy S10 is perfect for you. According to HotCars, this pickup is known for being one of the best trucks in general throughout the years, in part because of its fuel economy rating. It gets 27 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg in the city with its 2.2-liter, five-speed manual transmission.
Plus, with its age, you’re guaranteed to get a 1997 S10 for a good price, just be mindful of potential repair costs down the line.
2017 Honda Ridgeline
The last vehicle in our list of older trucks with good gas mileage is the newest model. So drivers can expect the 2017 Honda Ridgeline to have the most updated features in addition to its good gas mileage.
This pickup supports a 3.5-liter, V6 engine with 280 hp. It gets a fuel economy of 18 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. While it doesn’t have the best fuel economy on the list, it’s still pretty good. Combine that with all-wheel drive, towing capabilities of up to 5,000 lbs, updated features, and a price tag of around $31,000 and you have a great pickup truck.
