The 2022 Ford F-150: Tailored to your needs

The F-150 starts at $32,665 and features a well-rounded lineup. The workhorse is suited to fit various tasks and even offers a quiet deluxe interior on high-end models.
According to
Car and Driver
, “Contractors and fleet managers will appreciate the low-cost and utilitarian nature of the base XL while oil barons and wealthy ranch owners will feel right at home in the King Ranch or Limited versions.”
Hybrid and diesel powertrains are offered, as well as a Tremor model ready to tackle any terrain. Body styles and bed lengths are also customizable.
The 2022 Ford F-150 is paired with a 10-speed automatic and a 3.3-liter V6 engine with 290 hp. Buyers can also choose between a 5.0-liter V8 with 400 hp, a twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 with 325 hp, a 3.5-liter V6 with 400 hp, or a 3.0-liter diesel V6 with 250 hp.
For the first time, the F-150 has introduced a hybrid powertrain, which includes a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine with 400 hp and a 35 kW electric motor. Not only will the truck offer 700 miles of driving range, but it can also power up an onboard generator with up to 7.2-kW of power. Hello, tailgate parties!
Rear- and four-wheel drive are also an option. And depending on the engine, the F-150 has a towing capacity of anywhere between 8,000 to 14,000 pounds.

Upgrades cabin with endless customizations

On the inside, there’s lots of storage and cubbies to be happy about, as well as the extensive use of premium materials. The Ford F-150’s interior appointments are pretty much the same as the Ram 1500's deluxe cabin, especially if you look at Ford's higher-end King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited models.
Looking for a mobile workspace? No problem. You can easily fold the 10-speed automatic shift lever flat with the center console. The truck can also be ordered with fold-flat front seats, which make a great option for a daily nap. The four-door crew-cab style has an ample amount of space and is perfect for large families.
An improved version of Ford’s Sync 4 software is installed in the pickup’s 8.0-inch infotainment display. It’s pretty much the same as the optional 12.0-inch vertically oriented display you’d find on the Ram 1500. If you were hoping for a bigger screen, you may prefer the 13.4-inch screen that comes with the GMC Sierra or Chevy Silverado.
Drivers can expect standard Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Add-ons include SiriusXM radio, navigation, and Bang & Olufsen stereo system. Over-the-air updates are provided through the Sync 4 software as well.

The issues with the 2022 Ford F-150

With an overall score of 60 from
Consumer Reports
, the 2022 Ford F-150 received poor marks in three major areas.
The truck’s predicted reliability scored a 2 out of 5 rating with the organization. While its value rating was below average, at least predicted owner satisfaction received a 4 out of 5.
The experts at Consumer Reports also tested the agility of the vehicle on the road by assessing the amount of body lean and steering response. The test also included turning in a circle, noting the needed bumper clearance to make a full U-turn. For this routine handling exam and emergency handling, the F-150 received a 2 out of 5.
Not surprisingly, the Ford F-150 didn’t impress with its fuel economy and emissions. The turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 gets an EPA of 20 mpg in town and 26 mpg on the highway. The hybrid version is a little better at 25 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The truck scored a 2 out of 5 for fuel economy and a 4 out of 10 for greenhouse gas emissions.
Otherwise, the IIHS Top Safety Pick is tough, convenient, and capable. But if you’re able to swing it, we’d suggest a more fuel-efficient option overall, or at least opting for the hybrid powertrain so you don’t
blow your paycheck on gas
