, but until it is released in 2022, auto experts can only speculate on the details. What we know about the 2023 Honda CR-V so far comes from spy photos leaked during its testing in Germany. In these photos, the

appears to look slightly different than previous versions. Older versions of the Honda CR-V
have been fan favorites, though it isn’t a particularly high-powered or fun ride. It’s known as a dependable make
, with a smooth drive, good fuel economy, and a roomy interior. Only time will tell whether it will retain—or even upgrade—this reputation.
What we know about the 2023 Honda CR-V so far
The 2023 version will likely be offered in both traditional gasoline and hybrid forms, though an all-electric version may also be in the works. The gas-powered version is expected to have a 1.5-liter turbo 4-cylinder engine, much like the current model.
The new generation will likely also be aesthetically different from previous CR-Vs. Preliminary photos of the vehicle suggest that it’s somewhat longer than past versions, though not quite as large as the three-row pilot model—which, according to
Kelley Blue Book
, suggests that the new make may be a compact three-row SUV. Additionally, the all-new model boasts a more modern design, including updates to the car’s grille, wheels, and front and rear lighting.
“Whichever way the new 2023 Honda CR-V gets configured, it looks significantly more modern than the current model,” writes Kelley Blue Book. “We particularly like its upright nose and prominent grille, along with the revised headlights and taillights.”
The redesigned SUV will launch in 2022, with more details released closer to this date.
Expected pricing of the 2023 Honda CR-V
Car and Driver
estimates the pricing of the new CR-V, guessing that it won’t be all that different from the current model. For the LX, they estimate a price of $27,000, while for the EX-L, they estimate $32,000. For the EX hybrid, they predict $32,000; the EX-L hybrid, $35,0000; the touring, $35,000; and the touring hybrid, $38,000.
Kelley Blue Book’s estimates are similar. They set the starting price for the 2023 Honda CR-V at around $28,000 and predict that the hybrid model will range up to $40,000.
How the 2023 version compares to older versions
The 2023 CR-V may prove different from
older versions of the model
, though we won’t be sure how it compares until its release next year. In 2017, the CR-V was first offered with a turbocharged engine, as well as extra safety features such as automatic high beams, a driver-attention monitor, and adaptive cruise control. Its starting price was $25,020.
The model was largely unchanged through its 2019 update, though the 2020 model offered a hybrid powertrain option. The 2020 model also was equipped with new safety features, including automatic emergency braking, a lane-keeping assistant, and pedestrian braking.
The 2022 Honda CR-V had a starting price of $26,975, which is slightly lower than the price expected for the 2023 model. Though unimpressive in terms of speed, the 2022 model was great for family road trips, with a spacious interior, good fuel economy, and a variety of top-notch safety features. These qualities will likely be preserved in the newer model.
