Secretive Ferrari SUV: Here's What We Know So Far

Up until now, Ferrari has stubbornly resisted the urge to make an SUV, claiming it didn't suit the company’s brand.
However, as
luxury SUV
sales continue to boom, it seems their shareholders are suffering from a bit of FOMO.Ferrari is finally entering the SUV market, with its debut model expected at the end of 2022. The SUV will be named "Purosangue," which means "thoroughbred" in Italian.
Aside from the name, the Purosangue is still clouded in secrecy, with Ferrari hiding its
new cars
under Maserati Levante bodywork for testing. Luckily for us, Ferrari enthusiasts have been piecing together snippets of information to create a fuller picture.

According to
Carscoops
, it's clear from "spy shots" that the Purosangue will be more of a crossover than a true SUV. The vehicle appears to have a lower roofline than competitor models, which should give it a coupe-like feel when driving.
The Purosangue will have a sporty exterior design, like a modified Ferrari Roma, with an engine in the front and transmission at the back.
Carscoops also expects a liftback fifth door for access to the trunk.

anticipate the Purosangue will boast an output of 1,000 horsepower, thanks to an evolved version of Ferrari’s 6.5-lite V12. Assuming Ferrari can keep the weight down, such an engine should provide zero to 60 mph in just three seconds, and a top speed of 200 mph.
If these reports are to be believed, the Purosangue will be the most powerful SUV on the market. A hybrid V8 version, more practical for the majority of SUV drivers, is expected to follow.
The Purosangue will be all-wheel drive, and will benefit from Ferrari’s first height adjustable suspension system.
Inside the Ferrari Purosangue
Ferrari has promised a spacious and comfortable interior for four adults. Carscoops reports the rear doors may be rear-hinged, which is supposed to make it more accessible.
The dashboard console will be less "driver focused" than other Ferrari models, a nod to the fact that they are trying to appeal to a new customer base.
Still, much of the driver’s display and multi-function steering wheel are the same as is found in the Ferrari SF90 sports car.
There will be an infotainment system in the center console, with a screen above the glovebox for the front passenger to watch. Back seat passengers will have their own entertainment system.
How much will an SUV from Ferrari cost?
Ferrari has yet to name its price, but the consensus is consumers will have to fork up well over $300,000 for a new Purosangue.
A quick browse of online forums suggests people are unconvinced by the concept, questioning if an SUV can ever be a real Ferrari.
Lamborghini and Porsche faced similar questions when releasing their debut SUVs, but based on their success, the Purosangue will likely be a big hit.
As a company, Ferrari does seem to be expecting success, with two more SUVs scheduled for release in 2024 and 2026 as part of its electric vehicle range.
