Excitement over Rivian
Rivian's R1T is the first fully electric pickup truck to hit the market, and there has been a lot of hype for the R1T launch. Unfortunately for early adopters, the launch has not come quickly enough. While the R1T was supposed to be delivered to consumers in July, the launch was
Consumers aren't the only ones excited for Rivian either. Rivian has delivered electric vans to Amazon as the online retailing giant focuses on shifting to an electric fleet.
As the first electric pickup truck on the market, the Rivian R1T is the first electric pickup to receive an official range rating from the EPA. Both the R1T and R1S come standard with a 135.0-kWh battery pack.
The base Launch Edition Rivian R1T has a range of 314 miles per charge.
Along with this, the R1T gets 74 miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) in the city and 66 MPGe on the highway. There are expected to be different battery options in the future, but the base R1T with a standard battery will cost $73,000.
As for the R1S, drivers can expect to get a similar range to the R1T. On a single charge, the R1S has a range of 316 miles, two more than the R1T. Its MPGe ratings are similar to the R1T as well with 73 MPGe in the city and 65 MPGe on the highway.
Rivian has an advantage over the competition by being the first electric pickup to launch, but the R1T will soon face competition from other electric pickups.
The F-150 Lightning will launch after the R1T in early 2022, but it is expected to have a range of about 300 miles. It does have an advantage over the R1T in that its starting price is estimated to be around $40,000, over $30,000 less than the R1T.
Another competitor will be the Tesla Cybertruck, but it will take time before the Cybertruck hits the market. Tesla is not expected to release the Cybertruck until late 2022.
Its range cannot be confirmed right now, but some claim that the top model of Cybertruck will have a range of 500 miles.
, an absolute beast of a revival of the iconic Hummer.
The Hummer EV can come as a pickup or an SUV, and it features a range of 350 miles. Rivian has a definite benefit over the new Hummer EV, though, in that the Hummer is much more expensive with a price of over $100,000.
