failed to earn a recommendation. If you’re in the market for a compact pickup truck, CR thinks you should take a look at the Jeep Gladiator as a better alternative.
Consumer Reports thinks you should avoid these vehicles
There were a total of five vehicles on the list of cars to avoid:
- 2021 Volkswagen Jetta, Small Car
- 2021 Ford Escape, Small SUV
- 2021 Honda Passport, Midsize Two-Row SUV
- 2021 Ford Explorer, Midsize Three-Row SUV
- 2021 Chevrolet Colorado, Compact Pickup Truck
Each of these vehicles had deal-breakers such as below-average reliability across all five. Though these cars are top sellers, CR thinks there are much better alternatives.
The 2021 Chevy Colorado doesn’t offer anything new
Seeing the Chevy Colorado on a list of vehicles to avoid might come as a bit of a surprise. It's typically well-liked by consumers, and usually gets decent scores from critics. So how did it end up as a car to avoid?
The Colorado isn't that bad of a truck, but it doesn’t really stand out from the competition apart from its diesel engine. There were a few other problems too.
According to Consumer Reports, "The real deal-breakers here are the seats and driving position. Looking at the ratings, the below-average predicted reliability is a deterrent, and owners rate satisfaction as merely average. Together, these survey-based insights bring down the Colorado's Overall Score."
The 2021 Jeep Gladiator is a better alternative
The Jeep Gladiator is an underdog in the compact truck category. Fans of the
Jeep Wrangler
might be thrilled with the Gladiator, which has many of the features that makes the Wrangler popular without the rough ride. The Gladiator scored a five out of five on predicted reliability and predicted owner satisfaction.Some more reasons to buy the Gladiator include strong engines, good towing capacity, and off-road performance. Being able to remove the top can be another great feature, but you might be deterred by the loud wind noise. CR thinks that the 2021 Jeep Gladiator is an "under the radar" truck that deserves more attention.
