The Cooper family and engineer Alec Issigonis joined forces to create today’s Mini Cooper in 1961.
Before that, John Cooper and his father established the Cooper Car Company in 1948, while Issigonis began developing the first Mini in 1957.

Two years later, the two had released the Mini Cooper, which had been modified into a performance vehicle. The redesign allowed the car to excel on the racetrack, both in Formula 1 and rally.
What will the 2022 Mini Anniversary Edition look like?
The Anniversary Edition will be paying homage to the Cooper family and the car’s racing history.
There will be three trim options available, including Cooper, Cooper S, and John Cooper Works. The lower trim levels come standard with a classic British Racing Green paint or an optional Midnight Black color. Only the highest trim level will be finished in Rebel Green.
All paint finishes will also have an assortment of white accents. White stripes with red edges will be featured on the hood, accompanied by a white roof and mirror caps.
The Cooper name will be used on the car in a variety of ways. The Cooper Car Company logo will be added on the treadplate, under the C-pillars, and on the front fenders. The Mini Cooper’s first racing number, 74, will be painted faintly onto the hood with a ghost effect.
On the interior, each car will have the signatures of several Cooper family members etched into the dashboard and a standard
equipped with navigation capabilities. The John Cooper Works trim will have leather seats with suede accents.
This limited-edition car will be a three-door, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. It has 235 lb-ft of torque and 228 horsepower and is capable of reaching 60 mph in approximately 5.9 seconds.
The car is available for pre-order right now starting at $39,900, and deliveries are expected to start in January 2022. Only 740 units will be made worldwide, with 75 going to the U.S., so buyers should hop in line as quickly as they can.
